Raw chips and nuggets are porous. They should be treated like pearls and opals.
Gemstones also have different hardness and you can find that online regarding your item.
I try and use harder gemstones on bracelets as they get more wear than pendants and earrings.
Your chips and nuggets will benefit from an occasional touch up of (colorless) White Cedar Oil applied with a Q-tip lightly over chips and nuggets. It will dry and be absorbed. IMPORTANT use only the recommended oil. You can get small bottles online. You don’t want to add color and heavy oil will just stay on item. Better use nothing rather than add heavy oil or color.
